Malaria Pf/PAN Antigen (RCT) Card Test
Rapid Detection of Plasmodium Antigens in Whole Blood
The Malaria Pf/PAN Antigen RCT Card Test from Vanguard Diagnostics is a rapid immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of Plasmodium falciparum (HRP-II) and pan-malarial antigens (pLDH) in whole blood. Results are provided in 15–20 minutes, making it ideal for clinical, rural, and field-based malaria screening.
Intended Use
For in vitro qualitative detection of HRP-II (specific to P. falciparum) and pLDH (common to non-falciparum species) in human capillary or venous blood. Assists in distinguishing between falciparum, vivax, and mixed infections.
How It Works
- Add 5 µL of whole blood to the sample well.
- Add two drops of buffer.
- Wait 15–20 minutes and interpret visually:
- Pf line + Control: P. falciparum
- Pan line + Control: non-falciparum species
- Pf + Pan lines + Control: Mixed infection
- Control only: Negative
- No Control line: Invalid test
Kit Contents
- Individually foil-pouched test cassettes
- Disposable droppers
- Buffer vial
- Instruction leaflet (IFU)
Sample & Storage Instructions
- Specimen Type: Whole blood (fingerstick or EDTA-treated venous)
- Storage: 2–30 °C; avoid freezing; use immediately after opening

FAQs
What does the Malaria Pf/PAN Antigen RCT Card Test detect?
It detects HRP-II antigen specific to P. falciparum and pLDH antigen common to other Plasmodium species using a single test cassette.
Can it identify mixed infections?
Yes. If both Pf and Pan lines appear, it indicates a mixed infection of P. falciparum and non-falciparum species.
What type of blood sample is needed?
Use 5 µL of whole blood — either fingerstick capillary or EDTA-treated venous — plus two drops of buffer.
How long do the results take?
Results are available within 15–20 minutes, with no special equipment required.
How should this test kit be stored?
Store between 2 °C and 30 °C; do not freeze. Use the test immediately upon opening the foil pouch.
