Bilirubin Reagents – Total and Direct Bilirubin Estimation Kit
Vanguard Diagnostics’ Bilirubin Reagents are designed for the quantitative determination of total and direct bilirubin in human serum, supporting the diagnosis and monitoring of liver function disorders. This ready-to-use kit delivers high accuracy and consistency in clinical chemistry testing, particularly in liver panels and metabolic profiling.
Our bilirubin test kit for liver function uses the modified Jendrassik and Grof method. It is compatible with semi-automated and fully automated analysers and offers extended shelf life with stable performance. The kit includes four reagents: Sulphanilic acid reagent, Nitrite reagent, Caffeine reagent, and Tartrate reagent.
Key Features:
- Tests per pack: Available in packs suitable for 500 tests.
- Methodology: Modified Jendrassik and Grof.
- Detection: Measures both total and direct bilirubin with high sensitivity.
- Sample type: Serum.
- Reagent stability: Stable up to 12 months at 2–8°C; working reagent stable for 7 days.
- Instrument compatibility: Compatible with a wide range of semi-auto and fully automated chemistry analysers.
- Linearity:
Total bilirubin: Up to 20 mg/dL
Direct bilirubin: Up to 10 mg/dL
- Intended use: Ideal for liver function tests, jaundice screening, and hepatic disorder monitoring.
How It Works:
The assay relies on the diazotisation of bilirubin in the presence of diazotised sulphanilic acid. Caffeine acts as an accelerator in total bilirubin estimation, while direct bilirubin reacts directly. The intensity of the pink-coloured complex formed is proportional to the bilirubin concentration and is measured photometrically.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of bilirubin reagent testing?
This test helps detect and monitor liver function by measuring bilirubin levels. High levels may indicate liver disease, bile duct obstruction, or haemolysis.
What’s the difference between total and direct bilirubin?
Total bilirubin includes both unconjugated (indirect) and conjugated (direct) bilirubin. The direct test measures only the water-soluble form, which the liver has processed.
How many tests does the bilirubin reagent kit support?
This pack supports up to 500 tests, depending on analyser configuration and sample throughput.
Can I use this with any analyser?
Yes, the kit is compatible with most automated chemistry analysers and semi-auto biochemistry platforms.
