Storage: 2° to 8°C
Shelf Life: 18 months
The SGPT Reagents Kit enables the quantitative determination of Serum Glutamate Pyruvate Transaminase (ALT/SGPT) activity in human serum or plasma. This liver enzyme assay is essential for diagnosing and monitoring liver diseases such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatic damage caused by medications or alcohol.
Intended Use
This kit is used for the in-vitro quantitative estimation of alanine aminotransferase (ALT or SGPT) levels in human serum. ALT is a key biomarker for liver health, and elevated levels can indicate liver inflammation, injury, or damage.
Assay Principle
The SGPT assay uses the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC) kinetic method without pyridoxal phosphate activation. The test measures the rate at which ALT catalyses the conversion of L-alanine and α-ketoglutarate to pyruvate and L-glutamate. Pyruvate then reacts with NADH in the presence of LDH, and the decrease in NADH absorbance at 340 nm is measured spectrophotometrically.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What is SGPT and why is it important?
SGPT (ALT) is an enzyme produced by the liver. Elevated SGPT levels in the blood often indicate liver cell damage and are used to diagnose conditions like hepatitis or fatty liver disease.
2. How is the SGPT test performed using this kit?
The kit uses a kinetic enzymatic method where ALT catalyses the production of pyruvate, which is then measured based on NADH absorbance at 340 nm.
3. Can this kit be used on automated analysers?
Yes, the reagents are compatible with most semi-auto and fully automated clinical chemistry analysers.
4. What are the storage conditions for the kit and samples?
The kit should be stored at 2° to 8°C. Serum samples can be stored refrigerated for 3 days or tested immediately for best accuracy.
5. Are there quality control recommendations?
Yes, it is advised to run known control sera with every batch to ensure accuracy. You can find control materials in the reagent collection.
